When should you convert SSA to VTT?

- When you need it for HTML5 players
- To open your files in apps that prefer VTT
- To share VTT files more easily
What happens to your file
The SSA file is parsed into cues — a start time, an end time, and the text between them — and rewritten in VTT syntax. It is a text transformation, so it finishes almost instantly regardless of how long the video is.
Settings this conversion runs with
| Unit | Timed cue (start, end, text) |
|---|---|
| Timings | Preserved exactly |
| Styling | Not supported by the target |
What changes
- SSA carries styling — fonts, colours, positioning, karaoke timing. VTT has no way to express any of that, so the override tags are stripped and only the timed lines survive.
