Convert DXF to SVG online
Convert DXF to SVG to put a CAD drawing on a web page or into a design tool. The drawing's entities are parsed by ezdxf and rendered as vector paths, so the result stays sharp at every zoom level and can be styled with CSS.
When should you convert DXF to SVG?
- Embed a technical drawing in a web page
- Open a CAD drawing in Illustrator, Figma, or Inkscape
- Use a plan or a schematic as scalable artwork
- Share a drawing with a designer who has no CAD software
Before you convert
Modelspace only
The export renders modelspace. Title blocks, sheet borders, and paper-space layouts are not included — for a print-ready sheet, export the PDF from your CAD application.
Text becomes paths
Labels render correctly but are generally paths rather than live text, so you will not be able to edit the wording in a vector editor.
What happens to your file
The DXF is parsed by ezdxf and its modelspace is drawn through a matplotlib backend, which then writes SVG. SVG, PDF, and EPS output stay vector, so the drawing can be scaled without softening the lines.

What changes
- Modelspace is what gets drawn. Paper-space layouts, viewports, and sheet borders are not part of the export.
- Conversion is one-way. Nothing here writes DXF back out, because turning a raster or a generic vector file into real CAD entities is a different problem entirely.
- DWG is not supported at all — it is a proprietary format whose only reliable converters are commercial.
About DXF and SVG files
DXF drawing
Strengths
- CAD interchange standard
- precise vector geometry
Limitations
- needs CAD software to edit
- not for photos
SVG vector
Strengths
- scales without quality loss
- small for simple shapes
- editable as code
Limitations
- not suited to photos
- complex files can be heavy
