Extracting pages instead of the whole file
Splitting takes a page range out of a PDF and writes it as its own document. The extracted pages are copied rather than re-rendered, so nothing is re-compressed and the output matches the original exactly for those pages.
This is usually the right first step when you only care about part of a long document. Converting a 200-page report to Word to get one table is slow and produces a mess; extracting the three pages that contain the table and converting those is faster and cleaner.
Common reasons to split
- Removing pages you should not circulate — internal notes, pricing, personal details.
- Sending someone the chapter they asked for rather than the whole book.
- Cutting a scanned batch into one file per document, where a stack was scanned in one pass.
- Reducing file size by sending sections instead of compressing the whole thing.
- Preparing a smaller input before a conversion that struggles with long documents.
Check the page numbers first
Page numbers printed on the page frequently do not match the PDF's own numbering — front matter, cover pages and inserts shift everything. Use the preview to confirm which physical pages you actually want before extracting.
Splitting removes pages from the output, not from the original. Keep the source file if you may need the rest later.

Frequently asked questions
What is the page range format?+
Use ranges (1-5), individual pages (2,7), or a mix (1-3,5,8-10). Pages are 1-indexed.
Can I get each page as a separate file?+
For individual pages as images, use the PDF to image tool instead.
Does splitting reduce quality?+
No. Pages are extracted without re-encoding — quality is identical to the original.
