Converting into PDF is the dependable half of the pair. The layout is fixed exactly as it was laid out, and a properly generated PDF embeds the fonts it needs inside the file. That is the entire reason PDF exists as a format, and why it is what you send when appearance matters.
The document is opened headlessly with LibreOffice's Writer filter and exported. Text, headings, lists, tables and basic styling carry across reliably. What varies is typography, and that is worth understanding before you send something important.
Why the fonts sometimes change
A .docx does not usually carry its fonts — it carries their names. Your computer looks them up in its own library. The conversion server has a different library, so when a document asks for a font that is not installed, a substitution is chosen before rendering.
Substitution is not only a visual swap. Every font has its own character widths and line heights, so a replacement pushes words onto different lines, which moves paragraphs, which moves page breaks. The symptom is usually not "the letters look different" but "my one-page CV is now a page and three lines".
Arabic documents get an extra pass: justification is normalised before rendering so right-to-left paragraphs do not come out stretched, and a font known to render badly in a headless environment is swapped for one that does not.

- Check the page count first — it is the fastest signal that a substitution happened.
